A DAY OF FIRSTS

Photos: Ethan started to fizzle out tonight while playing in the kitchen. He was determined to lay down while keeping the colander on his head, but it wasn't as easy as he'd expected. As soon as he'd succeeded, he rolled over into his favorite sleep position & closed his eyes.

Today was a day of firsts: Ethan's first day in the nursery (a trial run in preparation for next week), the first snow of the season at our house (which lasted all of about 10 minutes max), and Ben Quinn's first day of being 4.

Let's start with the most exciting moment of the day for me - yup, it had to be Ethan going to nursery. I went in to sit with him for the first hour so that he could have a chance to get adjusted before I start dropping him off in there next week. He wouldn't have noticed if I left from the beginning - he just jumped right in and started playing. In keeping with Ethan's attraction to playing with odd items, his radar picked up immediately on a single, bright blue mitten which he wore on one hand for about a half hour while playing with all the other toys. In the meantime, I took on an unsolicited role as human jungle gym for a couple of my friends kids. Ethan occassionally look over at the kids who were climbing on me and laughed, and aside from stopping by once or twice to give me a kiss - he was never clingy. I was able to leave him in there for the second hour because he was doing so well, which was nice...I actually got something out of the last hour of church. ( : I was curious & did have to go peak through the window once mid way through class to make sure he was still doing ok - they were in the middle of playing ring around the rosie & his smile was a mile wide. Ahhhhh, how I love nursery. Now if I could find a remedy to keeping Ethan's pants up around his waist, we'd be in business. I think I'll be searching for a miniature belt this week.

The snow fluries we got today were a small teaser of what's coming this year (with one minor exception: everything melted as soon as it hit the ground). Scot's been out of town this weekend, so I'm glad it didn't snow too much - I haven't been trained to use our ginormous snowblower yet (which is ok - I'm not sure I'm strong enough to actually push it). This photo was taken this past Jan., the day after we moved into our new house. I hope fall sticks around a little longer.

Finally, Happy 4th Birthday to Ethan's adorable cousin Ben. We hope you have a fabulous birthday! We wish we could be in Boston to help celebrate. ( :

Regarding the quest for a mini belt, I just found some for Emma at Walmart this week (we have a similar problem) and I noticed they had little braided leather belts for boys too. Yeah, a little 80's I admit but they were the smallest I've seen.
