DISAPPEARING SIGNS

8/20 - My First Signs, it’s Ethan’s favorite DVD as of late. How do I know this? Well, because he has his own sign for the movie & he uses it frequently – typically we watch the movie multiple times a day (before a nap or bedtime…and also when he wakes up. Yup – it’s his favorite). We watched the dvd last night before bed, which is why I know that the DVD was in there when I went to bed. This morning when he requested the movie by sign, I went to the dvd player to find the “No Disk” message. I didn’t move it, Scot didn’t move it & unless Dylan has superhuman-labrador dexterity, he didn’t move it – which means that Ethan moved it. I know for a fact that Ethan was only alone for brief moments of time this morning – but those were VERY creative moments. I’ve searched all day (between errands, appointments, playing etc.) and there is absolutely no sign of the movie. Ethan has requested it many times and hoping that he'll make it reappear, I always say “I don’t know where your movie went, do you?” to which he’ll turn his hands palm up and signal “I don’t know” & then gets a look like he has an idea and either goes to turn on the TV, brings me the DVD case or looks in his toy box. I’m sure it will turn up someday – but in the meantime, I’m anxiously awaiting his new Signing Time dvd’s in the mail.

I did love the moment when Ethan was looking deep into his toybox today and then fell in – his head and full upper body were in the box and his feet were flailing outside. I laughed as I went to help him out…funny kid.

Today Ethan – aside from driving me insane on the quest to locate a missing movie – also spent some time driving his cozy coupe. He mainly drove backwards today and then got in and out of the car. On a few occasions, the car started moving forwards before he was inside & Ethan ended up doing a good split or two. He always let out a concerned “Help” noise and then did the same thing again and again after being rescued. (Like last night when he bumped his head on the fireplace and did a fake cry so that I would kiss it better – I kissed him until he laughed, and then he went and hit his head on the fireplace again, on purpose – TWO MORE TIMES…)

I went to VT tonight and when I got home, Ethan had the biggest smile. I picked him up and he patted me and gave me kisses on the shoulder. I love being missed that much.

Ethan had his first official bubble bath today, he LOVED it! I enjoyed watching him as he tried to process where all the bubbles were coming from, and then he just played. He's pretty sweet...I think I'll keep him.
