Both were delightful...but the beach life wins out by a clear margin. We went back to Legoland today to go to their aquarium, which they call Sea Life.
The tickets that I bought through Costco included both, and since the weather forecast called for overcast skies and a chance of rain today, we made the plan to head back to Legoland to explore the aquarium. If we could only rely on forecasts...but we can't. Today has been gorgeous. Warm with a light breeze. I'm beginning to think that Ethan's forecasting by looking out the window is the best method.
At any rate, the kids loved the aquarium, and when they had seen enough, we went to In and Out to grab some lunch (because it wouldn't be a trip to California if you didn't stop there at least once).
We decided to drive home along the coast - which was perfect. We found a great spot to stop along the beach, took off our shoes, and ran through the sand.
I hadn't come prepared with anything FOR the beach on this particular outing, but it all worked out fine...and honestly, you don't really NEED anything to play on the beach. A few of my favorite things from today:
- Watching Ethan write his own name in the sand. It was perfect. ( :
- Ethan and Brynn screaming when the waves rushed up on the shore and covered their feet.
- Brynn running as fast as her little legs could carry her trying to outrun a wave...she didn't
make it, but Daddy rescued her before she fell over completely.
- Ethan and Daddy building a sand castle with a mote
- Brynn laying on top of mommy on the sand.
- Brynn's curly hair blowing in the wind
- Ethan singing Chicken Soup with Rice as he sat in a deep hole someone had dug in the beach
- Ethan saying "this is the biggest sandbox I've ever seen"
- Scot, contemplating the meaning of life (...or something else) as he stared out into the ocean
I love family vacations. I love watching the kids clamoring to get to their Dad first to secure a spot holding his hand. It's what heaven is all about.
And...sitting on the beach, watching the sunset over the ocean with my family wasn't bad either.

I love it. I miss the Cinci aquarium and the kids still remember it. In and Out Burger is almost a sacred experience. You have such a lovely writing style.
