I have a love/hate relationship with the vents in our house...not because they don't work the way they should - but because Ethan enjoys putting things IN them. The other day, he was behind one of our lamp tables in the family room with the vent cover off dropping colored pencils down the open hole. When I discovered his new trick, I removed him from the area & then had to stick my arm all the way down as far as I could reach to retrieve them. To be honest, I was prepared to find more than colored pencils down there, (along with other things like spiders), but I was plesantly surprised...this time anyway.

This morning, Ethan got some of my earrings off my desk in the kitchen. Typically, I don't let him play with my jewelry, but for some reason I was feeling generous this morning & assumed that he would be careful. I'm glad the earrings weren't extremely expensive, because one of them is now somewhere in the depths of the intake vent in the hall wall (which, in case you're wondering, is not as ideal a "hiding place" as a floor vent. I took the wall panel off and found that things just drop straight down into the air ducts - there's no rescue effort that could bring anything back). Looks like I'll have to replace yet another pair of hoops.

I love it. They can get themselves into so much trouble. Just wait until #2 comes along and you're stuck feeding the baby and can't keep the toddler out of trouble. :) BTW...Congrats!!! Do you know what you're having? We aren't finding out this time. It might be just too crazy for me to handle though.
Thank you for sharing your cute stories of Ethan. I feel like I know your little boy.
"counter top climbing" and "vent filling" are two of my least favorite tricks that my oldest has become so good at lately. like kathy says, it gets even better when you've got your arms full and can't leap up to stop them as quickly.
