PAINTING PARTY

For Brynn's 2nd birthday, Scot and I gave her an easel and a bunch of painting supplies. I have very fond memories of an easel my Dad made me for one of my birthdays (I think it was for a birthday, am I right mom?). I remember painting pictures at my easel, and since my kids love doing crafts and art projects, I thought Brynn (and Ethan) would love having an easel too. Boy was I right. It was gorgeous outside this morning, so as the kids were finishing up their breakfast, I got everything prepped and ready to go. With the obvious potential for messes, I decided that this is clearly an outdoor activity. The kids had a great time - they each painted a number of pictures. Ethan used mostly greens and blues - and one time on top of a black piece of paper, which meant the entire thing had a black undertone. He was thrilled with the outcome. Brynn stuck with a few colors for each painting (mainly due to the fact that she isn't great with the concept of keeping brushes with their respective colors, so I only gave her a few to work with for each painting). They loved every minute of it. I had a bucket of clean water to the side of the easel so that I could rinse out brushes and clean the paint off the easel in between paintings. As we were getting ready to wrap up the activity, I looked over to see Brynn standing in the bucket of water painting from the side. It was hilarious. More than anything, I was happy to see my kids enjoying each other and their artistic abilities.
