4 YEAR CHECK UP

Today was Ethan's 4 year check up with Dr. Susie. He was the most adorable little patient - perfect from start to finish. One of the nurses greeted us (well, Ethan, cause he was the patient) and took us to our room. After taking off Ethan's shoes, he went out for the weight, height, blood pressure check and eye exam. Ethan weighed in at 40 lbs. (75%ile) and measured at 42 in. tall (85%ile). Overall his BMI is at 50% - so he's perfectly in the middle. When the nurse was going over the eye chart with Ethan to see what he would call the picture shapes, there was a picture of a mug or a cup. When the nurse asked Ethan what he would call that - he paused for a second and said "Ummmm, hot tea". Hilarious. That was the only time he said that, and then he called it a cup during the exam...but the nurse and I got a real kick out of that.

When we got back to the room, Brynn and Ethan were in full sharing and talking mode with the nurse. She said "if your mommy ever needs to go anywhere - she can bring you over to my house anytime, you're absolutely adorable." I thought it was sweet. They were glowing. By the time Dr. Susie came in, the kids were in rare form. After a few minutes of talking with Dr. Susie, she looked at me and said "well, we know that Ethan doesn't struggle with any of his verbal skills - he's got an amazing vocabulary and enunciates every word perfectly." I had to agree. Brynn was trying to copy Dr. Susie throughout most of the check up. As soon as the reflexes were checked, Dr. Susie handed Brynn her reflex hammer - she was in Dr. heaven after that.

Ethan checked out well - but she is going to order a sleep study from Children's Hospital so that have a clear picture of whether or not he will need his tonsils out, and she heard a little heart murmer today that she's never heard before (which she doesn't think is any cause for worry), so she's also sending us to see a Cardiologist at Children's just to get that checked out for peace of mind as well. All in all, a perfect check up. I love that kid - he's amazing. I'm so blessed to be his mom (and Brynn's too, of course).
