BRAVE IN THE FACE OF THUNDER

Today has been a rather funny day for a number of reasons:

1. Ethan picked out a big container of waterballoons the other day when we were at the store. He's been wanting to use them ever since we got them home, but the opportunity just hasn't presented itself...until today. Yesterday, I told him that he could throw a couple at JD when he was here to work today, so the moment that JD arrived, he could't wait to tell him that he had a surprise for him today and he was going to throw water balloons at him while he was working. So much for the thrill of the stealth attack. We made dozens of balloons, and I believe only 1 actually hit JD...I was the one who happened to throw that one. ( :

2. We waited all day for the 20 yard dumpster to arrive so that JD could do his sod removal job on the side of the house in preparation for the delivery of the gray scape rock tomorrow morning. (We're finally getting to the final step in finishing off the dog run on the side of our house). Scot and JD rented a sod cutter last Saturday, and JD rolled it all up and did a lot of the prep work, so when he got here this morning he was totally ready to get the job done. After calling a few times to see when the truck would get here, he finally arrived around 3:30, just as it started pouring rain and lightning/thundering really close to the house. JD still worked diligently in the rain. It quickly turned his job into a whole bunch of mud. Timing is everything in this business. Sorry JD.

3. As I came back into the house from checking on JD's work situation in the rain and telling him not to chance it if the lightning got too close, I called out for Ethan that it was time for his nap. He knelt up on the stairs and said "Mom, I'm right here - you interrupted me saying a prayer to ask Heavenly Father to help me be brave in the thunder." SO SWEET! I love that he thought to do that on his own. When we got upstairs, he climbed up on his bed and said "Let's say another prayer", which he did all by himself. My favorite phrase was "Please help us to take a brave nap in the thunder." I'm telling you, this kid is a real keeper.
