BRYNN+EAR INFECTION=ER

Brynn has had a cold for the past few days, but yesterday, she started acting a little bit more clingy than usual. I could tell that she wasn't feeling well, so I kept her home all day yesterday & we skipped church today. She began moaning this morning & had a fever that kept fluctuating, but when it hit 103.2, I made another phone call to my brother Matt, who happens to be a Pediatric Hematology Oncology Dr. Scot didn't think I should take her to Urgent care, he wanted her to go to the ER where they had a Pediatrition on staff, but I thought Matt would be a good resource (he ALWAYS is). Matt told me that her symptoms pointed towards an ear infection (because the fever had come a few days into the illness), and she would more than likely be given a prescription for amoxicillan, but could probably wait it out until morning so we could go to her Dr's office. After I got off the phone, we could tell that Brynn was feeling absolutely miserable, her skin tone was really pale, fever was still high, and so the decision was made to go to the ER.

By the time we got to Sky Ridge hospital, her color was looking better & her temperature had gone down a little (of course, Murphy's law), but at that point, I decided to wait it out. They got us into a room shortly after we checked in, hooked Brynn up to watch her pulseox (which she HATED), and then we sat in our little room, waiting for the Dr. I turned on the TV to pass some time, but apparently they don't want you to actually be able to hear it in those ER rooms...so I spent most of the time guessing what people were talking about & snuggling with Brynn. I regretted not grabbing some food before leaving home, but when they showed food commercials, I just thought about how good food WOULD'VE tasted, and that helped (ok, not really - but I wish it had).

A couple hours later, we found out that Matt was absolutely correct. Ear infection. Her fever at that point was down to 101.5 (or something like that). The administered some Tylenol AND children's Motrin (which I learned can be taken at the same time), we took our prescription and went in search of a 24 hour pharmacy (I drove to at least 3 before I called home to have Scot research it out for me). I'm sure Brynn will be feeling better in a couple days.

poor girl. she really looks like Ethan in this picture. how nice to have such a trusted source on speed dial! maybe in this virtual world of ours, someday you will be able to taste food just by watching TV!
